YNPN SD Aceepting Advisory Board Members!

YNPN San Diego accepting board applications!

As YNPN San Diego grows we are looking for more board members to help us better serve our membership. Our current board consists of ten members and we are looking to bring on as many as five more. We encourage anyone interested in becoming involved with our rapidly-growing and successful organization to apply for a board position.

Here is how some of the current board members describe the YNPN San Diego board leadership:

  • The culture is one of respect, openness, and trust. While disagreements may arise, they are handled tactfully and board members listen to what others are saying. I also believe we have the membership's best interest in mind.”
  • “Supportive, hardworking and fun.”
  • “Transparent, collaborative, high standards.”

As you may know, in the spring we will be completing our first year in the community with significant success. As of January 1, YNPN San Diego has achieved tax exempt status through our fiscal sponsorship with Volunteer San Diego. We will engage in a strategic planning retreat in April with previous, current, and new board members.

We now have six committees including Meet and Greet, Professional Development, Finance, Membership, Board Development, and Partnerships. We ask every board member to serve on at least one committee and each committee is chaired by a board member, but that does not mean that every board member serves as a committee chair.

To learn more about the YNPN San Diego board priorities and board description, visit the YNPN San Diego website. If you have any questions, please contact Board Development Chair, Dan Buryj or Advisory Board Chair, Emily Davis.

YNPN Dec 08 Meet and Greet a Success!

From board member, Emily Bhatti...

I wasn’t sure if doing a Meet and Greet in December would be such a good idea. I thought it would be great to get another one in before the end of the year, but people are so busy in December. Sometimes, it is amazing how things fall into place...

With a location secured within the first week of planning, things moved along very smoothly and I am thrilled with the results. We had a great time and I have heard so many positive comments that I know it was worth it. It is also getting easier to do these after having a couple of these events under the belt. You work out the kinks on the timeline/task sheet and people step up and things come together before you know it. The Palm was a great host and even provided some food and a fantastic staff.

I am really looking forward to next year. In January, the Meet and Greet Committee will be meeting to plan a calendar for all 2009 events. It’s a great opportunity to get everyone involved, everyone’s input, and plan far enough in advance so everyone can have it on their calendar. This is clearly something that the San Diego nonprofit community needs and it’s great to have such a positive response to these events.

THANK YOU to all of our in-kind donors and supporters!!!

YNPN San Diego on LinkedIn, from Dan Buryj

Did you know that Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) San Diego is on LinkedIn?

This professional networking site provides an opportunity for YNPN San Diego members to network, post articles of interest, discussions, general questions, events, as well as share professional background and experience. Several members, including myself, use LinkedIn to connect individuals with known volunteer and employment opportunities. With nearly 70 group members, and thousands of connections, it's a great way to continue networking between Meet & Greets.
